What is a Story in TightKnit?
A story will generally be an event (e.g. “Smith’s Family Reunion, 1959” or “France Vacation 2005”), a topic (e.g. “Earl’s World War II Story” or “Life on the Farm pre-1950”) or just a grouping of photos (e.g. “Betty’s Baby Album”). It can be as little as one photo, or as many as are needed to “tell the story”.
Creating a TightKnit Story
In TightKnit, when you create a story, you have certain rights. For example, the ability to title it (and change the title later). You also choose who sees the story. The story is, by default, private, so that you don’t accidentally share it. You can then choose if and when you want the story shared with friends and family. Note that once you share a story, you cannot un-share it!
Uploading Photos to a Story
One item to note is the order that photos are entered into a story. The first photo uploaded (by anyone in the family the story has been shared with) will always be the first photo. That is significant, because the first photo is the photo that is used in the story thumbnail on the Stories page of TightKnit. So, if you are creating a story, think about what photo you would like to have on the cover. Any photo that is added later, is always added after the photo(s) that are already in the story. Look for features in the future that will allow you to re-order the photos in a story!
Sharing a Story
Once you share a story with a family, those family members can now add to the story – not only commenting on your photos, but by adding their own photos as well. In TightKnit, a story is where collaboration happens – just like around the kitchen table. You may start a story about your parents wedding with the photos you have, but find that the story grows as other family members share the photos of your parents wedding taken by others who were there, providing everyone with a richer view of the story!
