Photos are amazing things! When it shows something from your past, they can connect with you on such a deep level – automatically transporting you back to a different time and place. They trigger memories and stories that otherwise might not have surfaced. TightKnit leverages these photos and allows the memories and stories to be captured and shared by those “at the table”. One wonderful thing about TightKnit too, is how collaborative it is -- that anyone “at the table” (in the TightKnit family that is sharing the story), can add to it in the form of comments and even more photos!
Have fun!!
Photo and Story Considerations:
- Story “Cover” Photo. When creating a story, the first photo uploaded will be the one shown on the “cover” (the thumbnail photo of what you see when you look at the “Stories” on the main TightKnit page). Note too that the optimal image will be in landscape (wide) orientation, as that is the shape of the “cover”. You can use portrait (tall) orientation, but TightKnit will pull from the center of the image.
- Order of Photo Images Uploaded to a Story. New photos are add to a story in the order they are uploaded. For example, if a story has 10 photos and you add another, the photo you just uploaded will become the 11th photo. No re-ordering is currently available, but look for future enhancements!
- What photos can be used in a story. When placing photos into a story, those photos can either come from your computer (or other device) via the “Upload” option, or, if you had previously uploaded the desired photos into TightKnit, you can select them from “Your Photos”.
- Duplicate Photo Advisory. TightKnit will warn you if you are attempting to upload a duplicate photo – that is, one that you had previously uploaded, as it is best to avoid duplication in “Your Photos”. Note that you can use a photo in as many stories as you want! It will just pull from the one that you had already uploaded, so that no duplications are made. Note too that when selecting a photo from “Your Photos”, any comments that may have been made by others on that photo in another story, will be removed to preserve privacy!
- Photo Image Format. Most scanners, cameras and mobile devices by default create images in .jpg format. Those images are compatible with TightKnit, as are those with a .png format. Other formats, including video, are not compatible at this time.
- Maximum Image and Upload Size. 10mb is the maximum image size, and 100 images is the maximum per upload. Additional uploads can be made for stories requiring more than 100 photos!
How this works:
Where are the photos that you want to use?
- If you previously uploaded them to TightKnit, use the “Your Photos” option.
- Click on “Your Photos” (located across the top). You will be presented with all of the photos that you had previously uploaded. You can scroll up and down to locate your image. Sorting can be done based on when you uploaded them – the oldest or the newest.
- Select your photo(s). When you find a photo you want to use, hover over the upper left of the image and click on the circle to select it (a check will appear). You can click on it again to de-select it.
- Click on “Add Photos”. When you are finished selecting the photos, click on the “Add Photos” button (bottom of the screen) and the selected photos will be added to your story.
- If the photos are not yet on TightKnit, but are on a computer or other device.
- Run TightKnit on the device that has access to the desired photos. For example, the computer or tablet that the photos reside on, or on the device that has access to them as they may be stored remotely.
- Click on “Upload” (located across the top). Use the “Upload” option by clicking on “Upload” across the top of the screen.
- Add photos to the upload window. You can either drag and drop them in, or, use the “Or Choose Files” to browse your device for them. You can continue adding until you are done - up to 100 max in one upload. A counter at the lower left of the upload window, will tell you how many you have staged for upload.
- Rotate photo if needed. If any photo is incorrectly oriented, click on that photo and then click on the “Rotate” button to get it correct. Do so for each photo as needed.
- Add “Occurred Where” and/or “Occurred When” facts. These are optional and can be done at any time.
- Click on “Done”. This will upload your selected photos into “Your Photos” and into your story! A counter will provide progress on how the upload is progressing. Based on your internet speed and size of the images, the upload may take several minutes.
