Where this happened
Where was the location of what is going on in the image? While you may know where this was, others looking at this may not. So please let them know! Ideally, provide the following:
- Street address, City, State, Country
This is really important – especially for old homesteads – so that others know where family lived.
If it was a document, such as a letter, where was the author when he or she was writing it? If it was a legal or other document, perhaps put in the location of the person who would have “owned” it at the time it was written.
You may not know where this occurred, or may only have a general idea. Based on what you know, suggestions include providing the following:
- The City, State, Country, or
- Portion of a state (e.g. Southeast Iowa)
- State, Country, or
- Country
If you have no idea, just guess. Sometimes that guess is enough to trigger someone else’s memory. Tell people in a comment that it is a guess and that you are looking for clarification. Have them weigh in, as everybody knows something, but nobody knows everything! You can always come back and enter or edit it later.
Note regarding EXIF information: EXIF information is the data that is attached to a digital photograph when that photograph was made. It may include a geographical location. Please know that by entering something in the “Occurred Where” field does not edit or remove what if anything there is in the location field in the photo itself. TightKnit preserves that data. We do that because future enhancements will be leveraging any location information should it exist, so please feel free to enter information now and know that all information is being retained.
